A certificate proves a record. It does not prove an object.

Serial numbers, printed codes and embedded tags all identify something attached to a product. None of them identify the product itself.

A tag can be removed from a genuine item and applied to a counterfeit one. Nothing needs to be cloned for that to work: the reader confirms the tag, and the tag is real. The same weakness appears in reverse when a tag is lost or damaged, and a genuine object becomes unverifiable.

As product passports become mandatory across Europe, this gap widens. Regulation requires information to be published. It does not require that information to be bound to the object it describes.

The object becomes the reference.

VOIT Protocol™ captures the unrepeatable physical characteristics of an individual item at the moment of production, and binds that capture to a permanent digital record.

Because the reference is the object itself, the record cannot be moved to a different item. Verification later in life compares the object in front of you against the identity created at birth — not against a label, a chip or a claim.

The protocol is designed to work alongside existing identification systems rather than to replace them. Where a tag or a code is already in place, it continues to serve as a convenient way to reach the record. What changes is that it stops being the proof.

Three levels, one identity.

Assurance should match the moment. A customer in a shop and a customs officer in a dispute are not asking the same question.

Authenticity has become a commercial question.

• Counterfeiting. Enforcement depends on proving that a specific object is, or is not, the one a brand made.
• Channel integrity. When an item is registered at birth and read again in the field, a product that surfaces outside its intended market becomes demonstrable rather than suspected.
• Resale. The second-hand customer is invisible to the brand today. A transferable identity makes that relationship possible — and monetisable.
• Compliance. Digital product passport obligations arrive as a natural by-product of capture at production, rather than as a separate programme.
